Deciding to move forward with single parenthood can be a big step. Seattle Sperm Bank is here to support you in growing your family.
Where to Start
The best place to start your family-building journey is with a healthcare provider. Whether you are choosing to try an at-home insemination or if you are planning other treatment types in-office, the guidance of a healthcare provider will help create the foundation for your pregnancy.
Additionally, if you are planning for an at-home insemination, Seattle Sperm Bank requires a non-clinic release form to be completed by a licensed health professional (physician, nurse practitioner, midwife) before we ship to your home.
Finding Your Favorite Donor
It can be overwhelming looking through tons of donor profiles. Start with a list of must-haves and nice-to-haves. An example of a must-have quality in a donor may be genetic screening results or ethnicity. And a nice-to-have may be eye color or he enjoys a specific hobby. The more you add to your list, the narrower your choices are so it can be important to stay flexible if needed.
Finding the right donor can be overwhelming. If you need extra support we can walk you through your options, help narrow down your choices, and add you to waitlists. Reach out to our Client Services team if you have any questions or are looking to use any of our services:
- Free Donor Consultations – Our one-on-one consultations will help you sort through donor options based on what you are looking for in a donor. Our team can give you updates on vial releases and add you to a waiting list if needed.
- Free Photo Matching – our photo matching is a hand-selected service that does not rely on any AI or system to find photos. Our team uses candid adult donor photos to find features that are the most important to you.
- Genetic Counseling – if you find that you are a carrier for a genetic condition, it is important that you find a donor who is medically compatible with you. If you need extra support our genetic counselors can review your records and compare them with donors, you have in mind. They will review the results with you and explain any risks associated with conditions that you and your chosen donor carry.
When to Schedule Shipments
Seattle Sperm Bank makes shipping logistics easy by scheduling through your online account or by giving our team a call. You just need to decide which day you would like your vial(s) to arrive, and we take care of the rest. You should aim to have your vial(s) arrive at least 3 days before you plan to use them. If your healthcare provider has on-site storage, you can ship even sooner. If you are planning an at-home insemination, we’ll ship out a 2-week tank, keeping your vials frozen a little bit longer in case ovulation is a bit early or late.
Post Conception
Seattle Sperm Bank offers multiple post-conception services to support your journey. Here is how we can continue to be there for you:
- Discounted Sibling Storage: If you are looking to continue to grow your family, we offer long-term storage at a discounted rate.
- SSB Connects: We have an internal sibling registry for you to connect with other families who have used your donor. SSB Connects is a safe space where you can connect and share as much or as little information as you are comfortable with.
- Open ID Access: All the donors at Seattle Sperm Bank are Open ID and have consented to contact with any donor conceived adults. After reporting a birth with us, we will then have this information on file if your child chooses to reach out and connect with their donor in the future. We do not share family information with donors.
- Medical Updates: Our donors report back to us annually about their health and their family health. Our genetic counselors review the information provided and will alert families if there is a risk to any donor-conceived children. We will also take reports from other families into account for review and notification as well. By reporting your birth to us, we’ll have you on the list to receive any relevant updates.
